BIPOC Speaker Checklist

Goal: Have BIPOC and graduate/post-doc speakers invited to come visit us for lab meetings to give research talks.

Task 1: Create a lab-generated nomination list. [Kiana]

Draft email for reaching out to graduate students for BIPOC speaker nominations.
Reach out to CCD graduate students for nominations.
Reach out to Dev area graduate students for nominations.
Update current nomination list with appropriate contact information and research topics.
Update nomination list and identify appropriate contact information.

Task 2: Create a self nomination sheet. [Stephanie]

Draft Qualtrics form for self nominations.
Draft a response for those who express interest via self nomination Qualtrics form (i.e., let them know they are on our list and we will contact them to schedule a time, etc.).
Research areas to post the Qualtrics form (e.g., Twitter, listservs, etc.).
Post self nomination Qualtrics form; set up schedule for such posts.
Regularly (i.e., weekly) follow-up with individuals who express.

Task 3: Reach out to Nancy Sin about their mentorship group and invite them to participate. [Miranda]

Draft an email to Nancy Sin.
Send Nancy Sin the email.
Follow-up with Nancy Sin.

Task 4: Schedule speaker for specific lab meeting. [Miranda]

During admin meeting, determine when/how many speakers we need for the term’s lab meetings.
Ask lab members for input of what talks/individuals from our list to prioritize.
Contact and schedule BIPOC speaker.
